My African Grey Parrot?
I have noticed lately that my African grey parrot has been acting strange lately. We have a large cage that he sleeps in and a perch in out kitchen during the day that he sits on and watches what is going on. Lately when we put him on his perch he he falling asleep and very very drowsy, we also just notice that he has some bald spots around his feet. I understand that African Grey Parrots can pluck their feathers due to boredom but we have tones of toys for him, walk him around our home and we have a 4 feet by 4 feet cage.So can anyone please help because i’m very worried about his behaviour.

It’s time to consult a good avian vet. Your Grey’s symptoms are not normal or easily explained. Ask for a full blood panel to be done and have his skin checked for parasites. Don’t leave any stone unturned.
Take the paper from his cage (on the day of his vet appointment) and fold it with the poop on the inside and put it in a ziptop bag. Your vet will want to examine it.
Are you using any teflon or silverstone pots and pans in the kitchen? These products when heated give off fumes that are deadly for birds, but don’t bother us. If you are, then your bird should not be anywhere near the kitchen. You need to replace those pans with regular stainless steel pans, or at least something NOT teflon coated.
Birds can recover from this kind of poisoning, but it takes time and you have to be cautious. You’d be surprised by how many of our appliances have teflon coated parts: hairdryers, toasters, toaster ovens, self-cleaning ovens, drip pans on the stove top, and of course pots and pans, just to name the more common ones.
It’s also never a good idea for a bird to be in the kitchen when any amount of cooking is going on. Keep him elsewhere during meal prep.
