African Grey Toys
African grey won’t play with toys?
My african grey is only 6 months old or so. I’ve bought him a wide variety of toys–foraging, shredding, noise-making, thinking, etc., as I am at school for much of the day (no scolding, please, he still gets a good 4 hours or so of out-of-cage time while I’m home).
He seems interested in the toys when I first put them in, but soon abandons them. The only ones he plays with are “eating” toys, or toys that involve a hidden treat of some sort. I understand that these birds need a lot of mental stimulation, and have heard that some birds need to be “taught” how to play. Can anyone give me some tips with this?
I have a CAG who is the same way. She’s just now a year old. She loves her foraging toys but at first it was hard to get her to play with anything else. When you give her a new toy, are you playing wiht her and the toy to show her how it works? Here’s a free workbook to download that I have found very helpful!
