Fixture for ceramic heat emitter?
My incandescent bulbs don’t provide enough heat and keep blowing, so I decided to give the ceramic heat emitters a try.
I currently have two medium Exo Terra reflector fixtures that were once used for the incandescent bulbs. They sit flat on the glass lid. However, manufacturers recommend that the ceramic heat emitters should be used with open wire fixtures only.
The ceramic heat emitter that I just bought is 60W (Australian Reptiles brand). Is there anyway I can “modify” the reflector fixture set up (e.g. lift them above the glass lid with a clamp so that some heat can escape through the bottom)? I don’t want to waste the reflectors, since I did spend a lot of money on them, but if the ceramic heat emitters must be used with the open wire fixtures, then I’ll buy one.
Any heat lamp with bulb should be used with a mesh wire lid for best results. Placing a heat lamp and bulb right against the glass isn’t very effective, not all the heat can make it through the glass properly. Under tank heater and such are actually made for this, heat lamps are not. So, I suggest you go out and get a mettal screan lid.
