Bamboo Dog Toys

Saving (some) World
Many years ago when I had more time to take into account, I discovered a book called "The Culture of Make Believe "by Derrick Jensen. Was a horrible tome filled with meticulous detail and passionate speech about the history of hatred and the conversion of a blind eye. There were effects of everything from arms trafficking to the indulgence of consumers in the chocolate slave labor. It pointed a long finger and awesome and involved everyone, including the housewife suburban middle class in the wholesale destruction of mankind.
I was surprised and deeply touched. It took me a dog and a copy boy and spent about with tears in my eyes and open it and read for anyone who would listen, including Walmart and unsuspecting friends who fell in a cafe (coffee chosen by small brown child's hands). My teenage daughter remembers him as a moment in which he played with wooden toys and could not make Nestle milk chocolate. gave me a point, but some information crossed a line, some of them was too terrible to deal with processes, the majority was asking us to give something that he liked too.
We do not like the truth. It is, as mentioned, inconvenient. And so over time-that-should-promote "Things have learned to give fragments sound and small doses so that we can muddle through and make some small attempts to change things at the same time to feel good about ourselves.
Saving Earth sounds like a huge task for me, really impossible to understand. I'm just one of several billion people, one sand grain. Which means that someone starve in Darfur to recycle my can of Pepsi? Who am I to save the world just … and is there anything more important you could be doing?
Do not misunderstand, there are many good reasons to go green, not least of which is to improve the environment that our children live But the most important consequence in the movement Green seems to be an acceptance of responsibility.
Because we are well fed, healthy, and relatively free and wealthy Americans (there are countries Apparently food stamps wealth), we are able to make decisions, decisions that improve the quality of our life, our life neighbors and cause air and water and land a little healthier. But perhaps the real revolution taking place in the green movement is learning to care about something beyond ourselves, teaching our children to care, to act, to try to make a difference, no matter what the odds.
Going Green is an investment in themselves and in the future, both of which we are really starting to believe in. If we learn to respect our own piece of the world you may be able to learn to care for other parts it too.
What it really means to "go green"
What Where you got that dress!?
Those clothes on his back, the last rags of Old Navy, Gap, Hot Topic, Target. Someone grew these fibers and someone else has made them into a garment. Frequently someones are persons whose responsibilities, if they were American, would include their homework and sleep enough during the night. Sometimes working alongside their mothers who are making pennies per day. The land is cultivated cotton has been cultivated in the handle and full of pesticides that collectors contact every day of their lives. Beyond the humanitarian issue is the fact that import cheaply made foreign goods in our country also requires fossil fuels.
Guilty Pleasures
States United is one of the largest importers of cocoa, coffee and tea in the world. To meet the demands of first world, the youngsters of the age of twelve are robbed of their homes by slave traders and sold to farmers in places like the Ivory Coast of Africa. They work night and day in inhumane conditions. Most of our products cocoa and coffee in this country have their origins in the slave labor. That's slave labor … not pay. smores suddenly does not seem so wonderful.
Timber!
Most of us know that forests are an important source of biodiversity. Them undiscovered provide food, medicines and other useful natural chemicals are present in these ecosystems. The forests are the habitat of millions of organisms, many of which are unknown to science. An untapped wealth is in these places, not to mention many creatures threatened with extinction. Not everyone thinks the fact that many indigenous cultures have lived outside of these ecosystems sustainably for thousands of years. Now they are attracted by the opportunity to make money fast. They are selling their culture and way of life for a pittance. Old growth forests have many lives to reach maturity. What gift can not be recovered in this life and alter the course of entire cultures.
Not a drop to drink.
There is a global shortage of water. Only 6% of world's water can be used for drinking and agriculture and to be supplied 100% of the population. 70% of freshwater is used by people for farming and raising livestock. A far more people in emerging economies achieve lifestyles of middle class, consume more milk, eggs, chicken and beef, which is much the most intensive Water easiest diets they are replacing. "About 5 million die each year from poor drinking water, poor sanitation, or a home environment dirty – often the result of water shortages.
Is not that enough?
There are hundreds of problems over a hundred and more after that. The average American consumes products shipped from distant destinations around the world eat about two gallons of pesticides a year.
Lead batteries and other waste put into landfill is leaking into our groundwater poisoning our children other trash is carried out at sea and found its way onto the beaches in the world.
Mining and metals processing to meet the demand of consumers properties (of uranium for medical purposes, for the factories of metals) has some of the worst effects on people and the planet, resulting in toxic waste that infiltrates in our land and air and water workers and their families who live near him.
Urban inside out and air pollution caused an increase in asthma, allergies and many other respiratory diseases.
These issues affect everyone, everywhere in this country, and in others only we can imagine. Children are deeply affected by pollution than adults. They are smaller and more physiologically susceptible to risks environmental. Children have only a 10% of the world's population, although over 40% of the global disease burden lies with them.
It is easy to put your recycling on the sidewalk and the change of compact fluorescent light bulbs, it is more difficult to give up some of their favorite guilty pleasures. You can say that the Hershey bar in his hands was captured by a working child, but somehow it does not seem real. Going Green is much more to buy organic. What is recognition of the fact that we all have to each other, for our position in the great web of life that surrounds the planet.
Those of us who can make decisions with the burden of making the right ones. This is the hardest part of the truth. What you're doing now could be hurting someone small and helpless in a place now. Learn to do right. Teach your children well. Teach them to become activists and victims so they can learn that lesson the larger world, a world that we are saving a small part at a time.
What really can do to help.
Knowledge is power. Get on the Internet, has the library or find out what really is happening in the world.
Buy organic whenever possible, clothing, toys, food. Big chain stores now carry low-cost green option very affordable.
Look for items that are manufactured locally or this country, which helps the environment and the economy.
If you are building or buying furniture to find the articles FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved the use sustainable practices. Bamboo floors and regenerated forests are wonderful alternatives mature forests such as oak.
For a list of slavery-free chocolates (like Newman's Own) until http://ihscslnews.org/view_article.php?id+62
Reduce Reuse Recycling. Everything. Do not buy what you do not need. Be a smart consumer.
Do something, anything, a small change can (literally) make a world of difference.
